Beck Harold Wipperman, 63, passed away on October 17, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet guests from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Iles Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Dallas Center United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 23, 2025. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. The funeral services will be livestreamed at Ilescares.com
Beck was born on December 10, 1961, to Rudy and Linda (Robinson) Wipperman. He graduated from Dallas Center-Grimes High School in 1981 and attended the University of Northern Iowa and later DMACC. Throughout his life, Beck wore many hats: from early jobs at Younkers and a credit union, to working alongside his father in construction.
In 1996, Beck's faith and perseverance were put to the test when a car accident left him paralyzed. His positive "glass half-full" outlook on life remained unwavering. Following his accident, Beck made sure that his loved ones knew that his arms were still fully able to give those strong hugs to which that had become so accustomed. He knew there was always a silver lining if you looked hard enough. His love of life and devotion to his family and friends was simply not going to be deterred.
While working in the family construction business was no longer in the cards for Beck, he knew fate would always open another door. Eventually, his curiosity and drive led him to retrain in IT, where he found his niche. He worked for Network Inc. and most recently as an IT professional for Compressor Controls Corporation.
Beck had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and cared for. He was the guy who would invite movie theatre staff over for a barbecue after seeing them week after week. His love of smoking meat and sharing it, often alongside a cigar and a glass of good scotch, is something he cherished. His good mood and smile were simply infectious and were sure to spread to those around him. One of the neighborhood children referred to him affectionately as "Mr. Smiley." Anyone who knew him could attest to Beck's smile, boisterous voice, and sense of humor could lift their spirits, even on the toughest of days.
Beck found peace and joy in nature, especially at his secluded home. His love for the outdoors never left him. Beck and his friends loved taking a houseboat down the Mississippi River all the way down to Louisiana, something they did on multiple occasions. He also loved spending time on RAGBRAI or camping with friends and family. If he was outdoors with those closest to him, enjoying God's gifts, Beck was content.
Family, music, movies, and the outdoors filled Beck's world. He was a regular at live shows and concerts and loved supporting the arts, especially through his daughter Sarah's passion for theatre. He made sure she never missed a production she wanted to see at the Civic Center, and he proudly attended all her plays, musicals, and sporting events. Beck also enjoyed his time with his mother, Linda. Saturday morning coffee always ended up with Beck giving her "Tech Support" by going through her phone and teaching her how things work.
Beck was a devoted father to Sarah and also played a special role in the lives of his nephews, Tyler and Travis. He was a constant presence, showing up, cheering loud, and offering wisdom and love whenever it was needed. He even loved buying little gadgets for the house that would bring the family even closer together for fun activities. Countless days were spent over new fondu sets, pasta makers, coffee machines, or anything else that he knew the family would like. Many memories were made over one of Beck's fun purchases.
Left to cherish Beck's memory are his daughter, Sarah (Martin Schneider) Wipperman; mother, Linda Wipperman; nephews, Tyler (Staci) Pullin and Travis (Kara) Pullin; great niece and nephews: Sadie, Weston, James, and one on the way; and a brother in-law, Doug Pullin.
Beck was preceded by his father, Rudy; and his sister, Tammy Pullin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Beck's name may be directed to Dallas Center United Methodist Church or the Roy R Estle Memorial Library.

I was just thinking if you last night and was going to text you today. You will be so missed, your boisterous attitude, laugh and sense of humor. I will miss our massive Christmas baking days at your house, your neighbor who would come over to taste test and your Mom calling to check in progress or give an update on Dancing With The Stars. Your storage room in the basement with all your gadgets you just had to have. Your player piano you always tried to convince someone you were playing. How proud you were of Sarah and everything she did including round house kicking a mugger, so you had to be mad as a parent she didn´t just hand over her bag but secretly proud she kicked the crap out of him. I have called you friend for almost 40 years and even though we went long periods of time without talking sometimes, we would always pick up where we left off. Much love to all those who loved him. R.I.P. dear friend.

Beck, I will never forget the time we spent stuck in the revolving door at Mercy Hospital. I remember what you said about it being hot. Well my friend no doubt you are in Heaven with your dad, Tammy and the rest of your wonderful family. Thanks for sharing your friendship and humor with me.
