Belva Hess Obituary
Belva Johnson Hess, affectionately known as "Granny B," passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend.
Granny B embodied a spirit of kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Her life was a testament to finding light in the darkest of times and seeking greatness in everything. She was known for her strong will and steadfast nature but also for her immense capacity to love and care for those around her.
Following the passing of her late husband, Papa Hess, Granny B often spoke of his visits in the form of a hummingbird, believing he came to see her from the heavens. Now that she has joined him, we take comfort in imagining them both soaring together, sipping the sweet nectar of the Lord, and visiting their loved ones in spirit.
Granny B was cherished by all who had the pleasure of meeting her. Her encouraging words and infectious spirit motivated everyone around her to keep moving forward, meet new people, and never let anyone push them down. Her granddaughter Katie fondly expressed how Granny B would be truly missed by the entire family, especially her loyal lap buddy, Danny Boy.
Known for her passion for crafting, Granny B shared her beautiful creations and words of wisdom with her family and friends. Her granddaughter Emily J. Hess recalls her saying, "Never give up; you are way too smart to give up." Her crafts, friendships, and memories were topics of joyful conversation.
Despite battling cancer in her later years, Granny B remained a pillar of strength and support for everyone around her. She adored her dogs, Boots and Danny Boy, and loved caring for her late husband, Daniel L. Hess, whom she cherished deeply. Her family promises to carry on her legacy and take care of Danny Boy in her absence. Emily lovingly saying, "We promise to take care of Danny Boy and carry your legacy on. We love you and miss you."
Granny B is survived by her stepsons, Dennis Hess (Danyel), Jerry Hess (late Bert), and Tag Poindexter, alongside her cherished grandchildren: Katie, Emily, Amanda, and Kylie. Though they mourn her passing, they celebrate the indelible legacy of love, kindness, and resilience she leaves behind.
In remembering Belva Johnson Hess, we honor a remarkable woman whose life was filled with purpose, love, and unwavering commitment to those dear to her. She will be dearly missed, but her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
