Benirwin "Ben" Bronstein, born November 8, 1933, in Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully just past midnight on New Year's Eve, January 1, 2025. Ben lived a full and meaningful life, filled with love, adventure, a strong community, and a deep commitment to his family and business.
Ben was born and raised in Colorado as the beloved son of Jacob and Elizabeth Bronstein. A graduate of Colorado Springs High School and Colorado State University, where he obtained his Master's degree. Ben was a also a star athlete, distinguishing himself as an accomplished wrestler throughout his high school and college years.
A businessman's businessman, Ben left an indelible mark on New Mexico through a trail of successful ventures. From Mama Mia to the Soda Straws, the Village Inns, and the First National Bank of Clovis, Ben's entrepreneurial spirit helped shape the region's business landscape. But his impact didn't stop at professional success. Ben was a pillar of the Albuquerque community, sharing his wisdom, support, and humor with all who sought it. Almost every resident of Albuquerque was either employed by or connected to one of the Bronstein family enterprises. He had a particular love for the Jewish community, serving as chairman of the Israeli bond efforts in New Mexico-a heartfelt advocate for causes that mattered most to him.
Ben's appetite for life wasn't confined to boardrooms and community meetings. He was a traveler and adventurer, exploring exotic worlds long before they became accessible to most. From the streets of Russia to the bustling cities of China, Ben sought to experience life beyond the ordinary. Whether driving coast-to-coast in his Rolls-Royce with his beloved wife Mary Jo, or taking in front-row performances by Elvis, Tom Jones, and Wayne Newton in the family's much-loved Las Vegas trips, Ben turned every moment into a story worth telling.
A devoted family man, Ben treasured his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He shared 65 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Mary Jo, raising two sons, Jeff and Paul, and creating fond memories with his four grandchildren, Jake, Jon, Ivy, and Blake and daughter in-law Lacey. From enjoying time with them in Arizona to their cherished boating trips on Lake Powell and fishing at the family cabin at Tres Lagunas, family always came first.
A devout dog lover, Ben had an innate connection with every canine that crossed his path. While he was remarkably knowledgeable about various breeds and their unique traits, his heart belonged to the charming unpredictability of mutts. Over the years, Ben welcomed numerous rescue dogs into his home, each with their own quirks and personalities. Whether throwing a ball with Max, Scruffy or Tippy in the backyard or relaxing with big Sam or Chama at his feet, his love for dogs was evident in every aspect of his life. They were more than pets to him-they were family.
With a cigar almost perpetually in hand-a signature trait unmistakably Ben-he was, in every sense, a larger-than-life figure. He could be serious when the moment demanded, but his presence always exuded warmth and unmatched charm.
Ben spent his final years living comfortably in Arizona, in the gentle company of Mary Jo, surrounded by the laughter and love of his grandchildren. A life so intricately woven with success, adventure, and humanity is truly the envy of all.
Ben will be laid to rest at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale in the Jewish tradition, in the company of his immediate family. Those who wish to honor his memory are encouraged to celebrate his legacy of generosity, wisdom, and unparalleled zest for life.
Though gone, Ben Bronstein's legacy of love, laughter, and indomitable spirit will forever resonate in the lives of all who knew him. Rest peacefully, dear Ben-you will always be remembered and cherished.
