Ben was an athlete, a teacher, an attorney, and most importantly, a Dad. Ben was born in Marshall, Michigan in 1953 before his family moved to Lincoln Village, Ohio and then Rocklin, California. Ben graduated from Oakmont High School in Rocklin, where he is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame. After high school, he attended Stanford University, where he ran track and graduated with distinction with a degree in Political Science. He went on to earn his law degree from McGeorge School of Law and practiced in California for several years. Frustrated with only being able to practice law and never being allowed to actually do it, he left his career as an attorney in 1995.
Ben found his true calling as an "edutainer," which is a professional entertainer whose venue happens to be a classroom and whose act includes teaching an entire class during his performance. He was a skilled edutainer who earned accolades from students and colleagues, including numerous Teacher of the Year Awards. His act also included regular updates on his daughters and their accomplishments. Some might say he bragged about his kids, and they would be correct.
Ben loved history, abandoned buildings, dad jokes, tv marathons, and all-you-can-eat buffets. With various members of his family, he enjoyed exploring Nevada's ghost towns, the monuments in Washington, D.C., and countless historical markers. He was never lost, just exploring.
Ben is survived by his daughters and grandchildren Melanie Scheible, Kimmy Scheible Ambrose (granddaughter Brienna), and Danielle Lemke(grandchildren Alyssa and Wesley), as well as his sisters, Debby Richter and Barbara Puett, and his nieces and their families, Krista, Josh, Brooke, Emma, Kayleen, and Otto.
A celebration of life will be held at Mountain View Mortuary at 425 Stoker Avenue, Reno, NV on Saturday May 18th at 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to symbolically adopt a tiger in Ben's honor through the World Wildlife Fund https://gifts.worldwildlife.org/gift-center/gifts/Species-Adoptions/Tiger.aspx or to support the establishment of the Nevada Neuro-Degenerative Diseases Registry as established through Nevada Senate Bill 390 of the 82nd Session, by contributing to the Parkinson Support Center of Northern Nevada https://www.pscnn.org/join-us

Ben Scheible was a personal high-school hero of mine, and it truly saddens me that he is gone. He was the epitome of cool. He was gifted as an athlete and an intellectual, a real whiz at math. His twin sister, Debby, was also someone I looked up to, a mental giant like her brother. They would both tell me how they had this connection where each knew the other was in distress and each often seemed to know what the other was thinking.

My first ride in a jet plane was with Ben and the track team that went to state in Los Angeles in June of 1971. I was the team's manager, a sophomore at the time, but he made me feel like part of the group and included me in everything. At the end of it all, Ben thanked me for wanting to make the trip with them and for being at trackside to take away their warm-up clothes and encourage them on.

I'm gratified he enjoyed such a vibrant and successful life. He worked hard and deserved it.
