Benita Muñiz Hernandez, affectionately known by her family as “Ama,” passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 12, 2025, at the age of 93. Surrounded by her children and grandchildren, she left this world wrapped in love until her final moment.

Ama was the proud mother of 14 children, grandmother of 44 grandchildren, great- grandmother to 55, and great-great-grandmother to 15 — each one a precious piece of her legacy.

She was born on May 8, 1932, in Charlotte, Texas. She is now reunited in heaven with her loving husband, Robert Hernandez; her sons David Hernandez and Robert Hernandez; and her grandson Norbert Hernandez, all of whom were waiting to welcome her home.

In 1947, Benita married Robert Hernandez, and together they raised Robert, David, Virginia, Julia, Felipe, Rosa, Oscar, Norma, Estella, Veronica, Gracie, Carlos, Gilbert, and the youngest, Delma.

Her life was devoted to her family and caring for others, serving her church, and singing joyfully in the choir. She was known for her unwavering faith, her boundless kindness, and her wonderful sense of humor. Nothing made her happier than having her family gathered.

Ama loved to shop and was happiest when she could give gifts to her children and grandchildren. She rarely, if ever, missed a Birthday. She loved it when her youngest grandbabies would come visit. She made every Holiday special…she made the best potato salad; she loved to be taken out for dinner. Her favorite was Red Lobster and loved Golden Corral salads. She kept each of her loved ones in her prayers and would always remember to call and ask how things went. She enjoyed her small cup of coffee with three little cookies or a warm empanada, savoring life’s simple pleasures.

Her legacy, filled with kindness and devotion, will live on through the countless lives she influenced and loved. Ama’s life was a testament to the strength of family values and the beauty of togetherness, and her memory will forever shine as a guiding light for all who knew her.

Our Queen is now resting. Though our hearts ache, we find comfort in knowing she is free from pain and surrounded by those she loved who have gone before. She will forever be our angel in our hearts and will be missed tremendously. “God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So, He put His arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me.”
