Benito Hurtado, 87, entered into eternal rest, Monday, May 5, 2025.
Benito Hurtado was lovingly known as "Honey"and "Viejo" by his wife Irene of 55 years. Dad, Daddy, Pops and Papo were names that he would proudly respond to by his kids and his grandchildren. Benito was born in a small town of La Unión de San Antonio Jalisco, México. And later moved to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas with 9 of his siblings and his parents seeking a better life. The family lived on Avenida Gutiérrez in 1954. He worked as a laborer, attended Holding Institute and played basketball and baseball. After graduating he became a coach for the girls and boys at Holding Institute. At the age of 24 he served in the US Army. He was drafted into Fort Carson Colorado where he stayed for two months, later stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and finished at Fort Sill Oklahoma. Hurtado became a United States Citizen at the age of 31. Benito and Irene married August 16, 1969, raised three children and instilled in them the importance of sticking together. If there was candy for one there was candy for all three-if there wasn't, then no one would receive anything. He worked at Andy's warehouse and started carrying liquor with the dolly across the border to help family with bills. Librado Piña Forwarding, Alamo Lumber Company, Laredo Ready Mix, Reeves Cement Company were a few jobs he had before launching what is known now as City Ready Mix, INC. established on June 28,1978. He partnered up with Rodolfo Garcia and later became sole owner, in 1984. His work ethic was like no other: wake up early, be grateful, stay humble, help those that are in need and second chances are welcome, but you mess up again, you're out! Don't give up on your dreams and perseverance is key. His infectious laugh will greatly be missed.
Mr. Hurtado is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Moreno Hurtado and Maria Guadalupe Aldana de Hurtado; sisters, Concepcion, Carlotta, Maria Del Carmen and Iginia.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Hurtado; children, Claudia Eliza (Jesus Roberto) Garcia, Monica (Juan Fernando) Rodriguez, Benito (Diana Maria) Hurtado, Jr; grandchildren, Kenny, Roberto, Hector, Gianna, Karla Glorianna, Benito III; siblings, Juan Jose, Everardo, Guillermo, Jose Guadalupe "Pepe" and Beatriz; as well as other family members and friends that will greatly miss him.
The family will be receiving guests on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A rosary will be recited in the evening. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from the funeral home to St. Patrick Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Cremation will be held at a later date.
