Benjamin Anderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory - Downtown Suffolk on Jan. 1, 2026.
Benjamin Eugene Anderson of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his home on November 22, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on June 12, 1948, Ben lived a life full of laughter, love, and just enough mischief to keep things interesting.
Ben was happiest with a fishing rod in his hand, a good shag tune playing, or a pool cue resting on his shoulder. Fishing brought him peace, hunting kept him grounded, and shooting pool gave him yet another chance to "accidentally" hustle anyone brave enough to take him on. And when the music started, he'd glide across the dance floor with a rhythm and confidence that seemed effortless-because for Ben, it was.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Jean Thomas, and his father, Preston Anderson.
Ben is survived by his wife, Sylvia Anderson; his son, Hunter Anderson (Cristina); his stepsons, Thomas Sayers (Kariann), Joseph Sayers, and David Cook. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Anderson, and his sister, Debbie Moutz.
He leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren-each part of a legacy he loved deeply and proudly. They will grow up hearing stories about a man who could out-fish, out-dance, and out-play almost anyone, all with warmth, humor, and that unmistakable grin.
The family is eternally grateful to Heartland Hospice and team members Erica, Tony, Risper, and Natalie for caring for Ben with such compassion in his final chapters. Deep appreciation also goes to daughter-in-law Kariann Sayers and granddaughter Nika, whose round-the-clock care during Ben's last week brought him comfort and peace.
Ben's family will miss his easy charm, his storytelling, and the way he could turn simple afternoons into memories worth retelling. Though his passing leaves a quiet space in many hearts, those who loved him take comfort knowing he's somewhere with calm waters, good music, and a perfectly level pool table.
Ben, save us a seat by the water-and try not to hustle too many angels before we get there.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, Downtown Suffolk Chapel is serving the family. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
