Theodore Gounaris Aston

A native of Suffolk, Virginia, Theodore (Ted) Gounaris Aston, age 69 of New Port Richey, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 26, 2026 after a brief illness.

He was born December 20, 1956 in Suffolk, Virginia, a son of the late George Robert Aston, Sr and Irvy Bryant Aston.

Misfortune struck early in his life as he lost his father to an illness when he was just 5 years old. With his mother's remarriage, he was uprooted from his extended family and their support. He moved and changed schools multiple times over the next ten years with stops in Charleston, Scotland, Portsmouth and Seattle. His mother eventually settled in Glen Burnie, Maryland where he would once again need to find new friends as he entered his high school years. However, with a strong DNA "dose" of his father's social skills coupled with his worldly experiences, his people skills and acquired street smarts, the tone began to be set for his approach to life.

After graduating from Glen Burnie High School in 1974, his extremely eclectic personality led him to wander. The wandering led to a discovery of a love for music and a passion for playing the guitar, which he taught himself to play. It would begin what would become a musical journey for the rest of his life. He loved Music!

At the same time he became fascinated with computers. With the help of a friend's father, Ted landed a position with IBM replacing and repairing tape drives at the National Security Agency despite having no formal computer training. Amazingly, within a short period, he was recruited by the University of Maryland into a higher level position in their Data Processing Department. Fast forward another three years and he was recruited by Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore to be the Head of their Data Processing Department.

In 1993, the world was awakened to the potential of all computer systems shutting down when the year 2000 arrived. The new challenge created excitement for "eclectic Ted" to run off to Tarpon Springs, Florida with his family as he transformed himself into a management consultant. He subsequently worked with numerous hospitals across the country to prepare them for Y2K.

After the Y2K issues were solved and the computer world would be returning to normal, Ted was once again moving on to the next exciting thing by forming Studio9 Graphics to develop websites for businesses and non profits across the country. His goal was to build visceral and sensory websites that would inspire imagination, elevate the soul and keep them coming back for more.

Through all of his life accomplishments, there was one common thread woven through the good times and the bad times that always remained his happy place…..making music with his guitar and watching people dance and have fun. Whether it was a small gig at a local bar or packing the crowds in at a music festival, Ted was always on cloud nine!

"Teddy Boy" (Ted's stage name) and his band, the Cadillac Bombers were the pride of his musical life. The Bomber's rockabilly sound was loved across Florida and beyond. Ted had the best summer of his life in 2011 when the Cadillac Bombers hit the world stage on a European Tour taking rockabilly to crowds in Belgium, Holland and France.

For Ted, music was his sanctuary that would lift his spirits even on the darkest of days.

God blessed Ted with extraordinary talent that served to light a pathway through life and a meaningful contribution to the lives of others. For that, his family and friends will be forever grateful.

Ted is survived by his son, Zack Aston and his mother, Sharon Aston of Tarpon Springs, Florida, his daughter, Barbara Welms and his grandson, Grayson Norris Tow of Petaluma, California. He is also survived by his sister Cynthia Moran (Michael) of Columbia, Maryland and his brother, George Robert Aston, Jr (Cindy); nieces and nephews: Linda Kay Bost, Barbra Jean Forbes, Robert Bryan Osbon, Lynn Cipcic, Kim Aston, Marty Elswick, Trey Aston, Mary Catherine Aston, Dan Moran and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Linda Aston Haney and two nephews: Thomas Wayne Osbon and David Ray Osbon.

Ted leaves behind a cherished friend Kat Cassidy and her son Patrick. The family wishes to thank them for the time spent taking care of Ted and holding his hand over the last days of life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, 509 W. Washington St. Suffolk, Virginia on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11AM with a burial following at Holly Lawn Cemetery. A reception will be held at Towne University, 6009 Harbour View Blvd, Suffolk, Virginia immediately following the service. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
