Benjamin was born on May 4, 1932 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was a graduate of the esteemed Columbia University. His education laid the groundwork for his illustrious real estate development career.

He was an Ohio Division of Real Estate broker and was a member of the Board of Directors of Richmond General Hospital and St. Vincent Charity Hospital.
