Benjamin L. Dixon

1949 - 2023

Benjamin L. Dixon, 73, of Big Spring, died Sunday, May 28, 2023 at his home. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Myers and Smith Funeral Home, 301 E. 24th St., Big Spring, the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 5, at 10 a.m. at Myers and Smith Funeral Home and Chapel with burial with military honors at the Texas State Veteran's Cemetery, Abilene at a later date. Ben was born in Howard County July 19, 1949. He was a veteran and combat medic in the US Army's 101st Airborne Division. He was wounded severely in 1969 as he was serving in that role in Vietnam. Ben was a recipient of the Purple Heart, to include the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry award, and Air Medal among his commendations for his acts of heroism. Ben was a Practical Nurse in the Army and worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse following his Army service and retirement. Ben loved being outdoors, enjoyed fishing and would go every chance he could. During his free time, he enjoyed sitting outside with his cup of black coffee and a smoke. His favorite pastime was doing puzzles, especially Sudoku, and surfing the net. He was very outgoing and was a stranger to no one. He is survived by his wife, Erlinda Garza Dixon; his son, Andrew Dixon and wife, Janet of Dallas; his brother Roger Dixon and wife, Julie of Weatherford; an uncle, James Kinman and wife, Katie of Lubbock; an aunt, Meldean Kraus of Big Spring; step-sons, Raul John Garza and wife Annie; and Tony Garza and wife Nicole; step-daughters, Peggy Luke and husband Raymond, and Beatrice Uranga and husband Rigo; several grandchildren, cousins, extended family members and friends. He was the son of the late, Floyd A Dixon and Betty J. Von Kinman Dixon.
