I just heard about this. Ben was my sons' scout leader for years and was a very important influence on them. Their father, who was also a scout leader and Eagle scout, died when they were babies, and his only expressed wish was that they be encouraged to become scouts. Ben was more than just a scout leader for them. I am so sorry for your loss.

Ben was my favorite Boy Scout trainer. He was so wise and I'm grateful that he shared his thoughts and experiences with me. He brought me to tears one night when talking about interacting with the boys on a more intimate level. He was a beautiful man and I will miss him very much. Though I could never fill his shoes, I will honor him by teaching to others what he taught to me.

There will be some big shoes to fill around Calvary United Methodist Church. When I saw him at his last luncheon at church three weeks ago, I said to him " what are we going to do without you around here" and he said "someone will always come along" and he had the sweetest look on his face. I am so glad to have had that conversation with him and to have known him for 37 years. He was truly a God fearing man! Love to Verna, Danny, Gloria and family!

Ben leaves an empty space in our Church and a hole in our hearts, he was our everything. We will miss him so much but I know he is at peace. I'm sure he is in heaven right now looking for someone to fix that squeaky hinge on the pearly gates and cooking up a wonderful meal. Our loss is God's gain. Verna, Danny and Gloria please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

It is great sadness to hear of the passing of Ben Gregory. I had known Ben since 2005 when I started work for the Department of Charitable Gaming (now Office of Charitable & Regulatory Programs)where he served as the game manage for the Ruritans bingo game.

Ben was a wonderful person that dedicated himself to the Ruritans and for the bingo volunteers and players he got to know over the years. His positive attitude even as he was facing difficult times showed what kind of man he was throughout his life.

On behalf of the staff of the Office of Charitable & Regulatory Programs, we wish to express our condolences and sympathy to Ben Gregory's family and friend during this time of loss.

Respectfully,

Rudy Johnson
