Charlotte, North Carolina - Benjamin Hilborn Oehlert III, 87, died on October 7, 2025, in Charlotte, NC, after a sudden illness.
He was born on February 26, 1938, in Washington, D.C. He was an attorney in Atlanta, GA for 30 years and later became a teacher in Auburn, NY.
Ben loved all sports, especially golf, and getting together with family and friends.
He leaves behind his partner Carol Thomas (Brown), sister Wendy Adams (Oehlert), sister-in-law Dorothy Smith, and their extended families.
Simply Cremations of Charlotte assisted the family, further information is on their website. A memorial gathering will be held later. In lieu of flowers, donations to Crisis Assistance Ministry in Charlotte, NC, or Toys for Tots would be appreciated.

Ben and I became friends in law school and remained close for many years. Memories and recollections of his sharp and innovative mind, clever wit, pleasant demeanor, and gentle soul have remained with me for, now, over 63 years. When Ben moved out of state it was a loss to all of us who remained here. Ben, oh, Ben, gone. But, never, never, never forgotten and always important. I miss you.
