Benjamin Santos Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Benjamin Romero Santos, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, just shy of his 98th birthday. Born on November 18, 1927, in Baguio City, Philippines, Benjamin was the oldest of three children. His remarkable life journey was characterized by selfless service and dedication to his family and community.
Benjamin married Alexandra Gabriel in 1960 and raised a loving family. He found his greatest joy in his close-knit family, whom he showered with unwavering love and affection. He is survived by his loving wife, Alexandra Gabriel Santos, and their four children: Mary Santiago (Raymond), Benjamin Jr., Virna Agudelo (Marc), and Alexander (Raziel). He was a proud and doting grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Benjamin III, Jayson (India), Raelyn (AJ), Austin (Jasmine), Rena, Brandon (Jannea), Alaina (George), Talia, Aaron, Abigail, and Christian, and four great grandchildren: Hoseah, Holland, Shai, and Liam. He was preceded in death by his mother Agrifina, father Aurelio, sister Lourdes and brother Ricardo.
A proud U.S. Navy and Vietnam veteran, Benjamin honorably served his country for 30 years before retiring. His duty stations included San Diego, Japan, Alaska, Guam, Boston, Ohio, Lemoore, Mare Island, and Travis AFB. Not one to rest, he embarked on a second career as a civilian employee at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, retiring again after years of diligent work. He was a resident of Vallejo, California for 47 years, where he had many friends and family.
Beyond his professional life, Benjamin had a joyful spirit and a love for life's simple pleasures. He was known for his sense of humor, practical jokes, playing his harmonica, memorable karaoke performances, leaving paper roses as his calling card, feeding the birds at the waterfront, and his daily morning coffee routine. He had a soft spot for children and animals, and he enjoyed watching and following boxing matches and local sports teams. A faithful parishioner, he served as an usher at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Benicia for many years.
Benjamin's kindness, generous spirit, caring nature and unwavering devotion to his family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of service, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
