Benjamin V. Scungio, 97, of North Providence, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025, surrounded by his lifelong partner, Vicky, and his beloved children and grandchildren.

Born in Providence to the late Thomaso and Filomena (Iannuccilli) Scungio. He survived the passing of his two younger sisters, Marie Ricci and Anna DeFelice. The family grew up during difficult times with Filomena caring for the three children and Thomaso working multiple jobs. The tight-knit Italian family persevered under the firm hand of their father and the boundless kindness and love of their mother, who was taken from them too soon.

Ben originally planned on a career as an electrician, but that path was cut short when he contracted tuberculosis. He was sent to Wallum Lake in Burrillville for rest and treatment, where he met his future wife, Vicky. They first met when she was 15, and almost three years later he asked her out on their first date. From then on, she became the center—and the love—of his life.

Ben went on to own a small business in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, where he sold and serviced small appliances. His genuine love of meeting and talking with people ensured a long and successful career. Through his work, he formed many lasting friendships and earned a sterling reputation for integrity and honesty in the town.

Together, Ben and Vicky raised two children, Lorraine and Ben. Throughout his life, he was an inspiration and role model for his entire family. As a husband, Ben cared for Vicky with unwavering devotion for over 74 years, remaining her primary caregiver until his own health declined several months ago.

He lived a wonderful life filled with love, hard work, family, cooking, gardening, and most importantly faith. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren, tending to his beautiful vegetable garden and being surrounded by his extended family.

Ben leaves behind his loving wife, Vicky his daughter, Lorraine, and her husband, Arthur and his son, Ben, and his wife, Janet. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Jonathan Annear, Benjamin T. Scungio and his wife Ashley; Jennifer Simeone and her husband, Michael; Matthew Scungio; and Jason Palazzo and his wife, Kim. He will be dearly missed by his great-grandchildren: Breanna Palazzo, Victoria Palazzo, Emma Ibsen, Sophia Scungio, Domenic Scungio, Giuliana Simeone, Jack Ibsen, and Arthur Annear.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Road, Johnston. Interment will follow at Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
