Benjamin Wouters Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Prattville Memorial Chapel & Memory Gardens on Mar. 11, 2026.
Dr. Benjamin Conrad Wouters, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and respected physician passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at the age of 64. He is survived by his loving wife Lisa Wouters, daughters Lauren Maloy (Matt), Sarah Horn, Anna McNeill (Chris); Grandchildren Beau and Reese Maloy; Michael, Samantha, Elizabeth, and Thomas Benjamin Horn; Ensley, Hazel, and Rowan McNeill, and many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Ben was preceded in death by his mother Dr. Anne B. Wouters, father Dr. Freerk Wouters, adoptive father Dr. Fred Smith; brother Dr. Erich Wouters

Born on August 8, 1961 in Huntsville, Alabama, Ben was raised with a deep sense of responsibility and kindness that would guide him throughout his life. He attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and was an honors graduate receiving a degree in Chemistry. He pursued his calling in medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine graduating as an MD and PhD in 1987, where his passion for helping others took root. He went on to complete his residency in Surgery and Neurology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center serving as Chief Resident of Neurology in 1996 and 1997. Dr. Wouters then moved to Montgomery, Alabama where he joined Neurology Consultants of Montgomery as a physician, led Jackson Hospital's stroke team, and was published in various medical journals until his retirement in 2010.

To those who knew him as a physician, Dr. Wouters was more than a doctor – he was a steady presence, careful listener, and a source of comfort during life's most difficult moments. His patients and colleagues often spoke of his compassion for others, wisdom, and reassurance he brought into the room.

Outside of Medicine, Ben cherished his time spent with family and friends. He was a constant source of encouragement, laughter, and as a Cancer survivor he always reminded those around him to celebrate life's small moments. He enjoyed hunting, sporting clays, reading, visiting his children and grandchildren, and Auburn football.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to Montgomery Cancer Center: https://montgomerycancercenter.com/give/ American Stroke Association: American Stroke Association

Heaven has gained an Angel . Dr Wouters helped my Mother, and was able to determine her diagnosis. His kindness and warmth shown to us will be a part of our memories forever. His laughter and kind nature was an exceptional, and surpassed his ability as a physician.
You will be missed.
