Bennie Stallworth, a beloved, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Born September 17, 1946, in Linden, Alabama, Bennie was the beloved son of Theodore Roosevelt Stallworth and Mattie Lou (Spencer) Stallworth, the fifth of their eight children.
In the early 1960s, Bennie moved to Pascagoula, Mississippi, where he would go on to build a life full of hard work, dedication, and service to the Lord. He attended Carver High School laying the foundation for his strong community ties. Bennie worked for many years at Ingalls Shipyard and VT Halter Marine, where his artistry as a skilled painter became a defining feature of his life. Bennie also ran a body shop from his backyard, always striving for excellence in his craft. Painting was not just a job-it was his passion, a passion he shared with those around him, teaching others the value of dedication and attention to detail.
Bennie's faith in Christ was the cornerstone of his life. At the age of 21, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and that commitment to God guided him in every aspect of his life. His devotion to his faith was evident as an active member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Elder Wells. He later answered the call to pastor at Victory Omega Temple. At the time of his passing Bennie was a devoted member of Assembly of Praise under the leadership of Donald Tubbs. A beacon of light, Bennie's compassion, humility, love and firm belief in the power of the Lord guided others in their walk with the Lord.
A loving and proud father to his eight children, 20 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren they were the center of his joy. His love for his family was a constant, and enduring force. His wisdom, drawn from countless hours spent in prayer and scripture, was a guiding light for all who sought his counsel, especially his children. He never turned away anyone in need of help or comfort, embodying the words of Jesus, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
Outside of his work, faith and family. Bennie found joy in the simple things-whether it was fishing, painting cars, or riding his bike. He lived life content with the things of God and a spirit of joy that was contagious to all who knew him. His zest for life and his kind, gentle spirit inspired those around him to live with gratitude, embracing each moment with love, humility and peace.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, love, and service. He understood that his purpose on this earth was not to seek personal glory, but to glorify God through his actions, words, and deeds. His life, a testament to the power of kindness, hard work, and an unshakable belief in God.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents Theodore Roosevelt Stallworth and Mattie Lou Stallworth, siblings Nellie Van Bryant, Roosevelt Stallworth, and Issac Stallworth.
He is survived by his children: Gloria (James) Chandler, Tammy Tait, Keesler Tait, Precious Stallworth, Rhonda (Deaundre) McDonald, Tina Stallworth, Bennie (Amber) Stallworth, Fontello Worthy; mother to his children, Mary Alice Stallworth; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Lois Lawson, Eva Mae (Horace) Burrow, Bertha Denis, and Cemarrion (Sandra) Stallworth Sr.; an abundance of nieces and nephews and a host of devoted friends, including Donald Tubbs, Albert Croon, and Kinard Morris, who will forever remember him with love and gratitude.
Though he is no longer with us, we are reminded to live with the same compassion, humility, and faith that he showed every day of his life.
May we all strive to walk as he did, with a heart full of love for the Lord and one another.
Now rest in the arms of the Savior Dad, where there is eternal life, peace and joy.
You will always be loved, always be remembered, and always be missed.
