Benny G Banayote Jr. died peacefully in his home on March 3rd, 2026. He is survived by his two sons, Rob (Julie) & Joe (Linda) Banayote, grandchildren, Anthony, Tia, Kyle, George & Zack. He was the proud great-grandfather to six lovely granddaughters & two grandsons. All of whom brought him great joy.
Benny Jr. was born May 29th, 1936, to Benny Sr. & Mildred Zaring Banayote in Indianapolis. Benny Jr. was an adventurous child, spending plenty of time at the family produce business. Growing up, he worked with his father selling tomatoes. As part of the family business, his son Rob, also later worked with Benny Jr. in his early years.
Benny Jr. was a 1954 graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. After graduation he joined the Air National Guard, where he served for a handful of years. After completing his service, he found his love for sales. Benny Jr. worked as a leading commercial glass salesman across the state of Indiana, then followed by later years in the hospitality industry.
Benny Jr. lived an active life, whether it was coaching little league baseball, bowling, or playing darts. He was a devout Catholic & you could often find him volunteering at Our Lady of Lourdes Church or at the local food pantry. He has been a regular volunteer for the past 15 years, especially serving the elderly. He was known for saying the rosary daily and if anyone had a special request, their name would be added to long list of those he prayed for. If he wasn’t volunteering, he was enjoying a meal and rolling napkins at Rock-Cola cafe.
Most important was his love for his heritage. With a Lebanese/Syrian background, Benny Jr. made sure his family knew their history and told plenty of stories about the “old country”. He also passed down family recipes for us to all enjoy today. Benny Jr. never met a meal he didn’t like. He always had his own Tupperware to take home leftovers, and his bar towel in case he needed to do dishes.
He will be remembered for living life his way. As he was often quoted as saying, “I did it my way.” He leaves behind many great memories with family and friends and will be deeply missed. Benny Jr. has a lasting impact on his community.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12th, starting at 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church followed by Mass at 11am and a peace meal at the church. All are welcome.
