Benny Lee Blackmon Sr., age 70, of Calhoun, passed away Saturday morning January 7th at his residence,
Benny was born April 23, 1952, in Bartow County. Son of the late William “Bob” Blackman and Fannie Davis Blackmon. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Floor Tech. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by daughter, Angie Lane, Granddaughter Heather Blackmon, Great-Granddaughter, Mia Blackmon, one sister, Betty Blackmon, brothers, James Blackmon, Mac Blackmon, Jimmy Blackmon, Sammy Blackmon, and Ernest “Red” Blackmon.
Benny was a self taught musician and could pick up and play any instrument. He loved music, singing, playing guitar, and was an all around talented musician. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife Janice Blackmon, his children, Christie Parris and her husband Donnie, Benny Blackmon Jr., Jenny Blackmon, Charles Blackmon and his wife Kaisha, April Blackmon, and Jennifer Gossett; two sisters, Thelma Hatfield, and Brenda Sims. Grandchildren, Lamar Crowe, Chris Crowe, Crissy Blackmon, Blake Blackmon, Kimberly Blackmon, Katelyn Reynolds, Tyler Blackmon, and Devin Hardin. Great-grandchildren, Elijah Crowe, Carson Crowe, Emmett Crowe, Madelyne Reynolds, and Alivia Blackmon. His close friend, Cameron Wesson also survives.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday January 10th at 3pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers serving include Lamar Crowe, Chris Crowe, Blake Blackmon, Tyler Blackmon, Shannon Scoggins, and Cameron Wesson.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 7pm at the funeral home.
