Benny Cothern, age 84, of Alma passed away March 17, 2024 at Appling Nursing and Rehabilitation after an extended illness. He was born November 7, 1939 in Bacon County to the late Curtis Cothern and Lessie Mae Holton Cothern. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Faye Rewis Cothern; two daughters, Connie Sue Crummey and Brenda Gail Harrell; great granddaughter, Findlay Kate Weaver and sister, Bonnie Griffin.
Mr. Cothern was a member of Southside Church of God and was retired from Milliken & Company after many years of service.
Survivors include his daughter, Jamie Rena' Tyre (Jeffrey); son-in-law, Kendall Harrell; four grandchildren, Dusty Cothern, Trey Crummey, Tyler Weaver and Megan Bezonia; five great-grandchildren, Noah & Eli Cothern, Maverick Bennett, Nadalie & Paisley Weaver and sister, Peggy Miles of Baxley.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Southside Church of God with Pastor David Deen and Pastor R. M. Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Level Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the church Thursday from 1:00 PM until service time.
Active pallbearers will be Dusty Cothern, Trey Crummey, Tyler Weaver, Noah Cothern, Freddy Bezonia, Bruce Carson and Megan Bezonia.
Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
