Bentlee Cook, age 9, of Henderson, KY, went to be with Jesus at 6:59 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2024.
Bentlee was a loving, strong, happy boy whose time here was too short. Jesus must have needed a good lineman on Heaven's football team and Bentlee answered that call. He was a strong teammate on both his football team as well as wrestling. He was happiest when he was barefoot and dirty, playing outside, camping, fishing, and swimming. Like most kids, Bentlee loved being on his wheels; whether it was riding his bike, rollerblading, or skateboarding, if it had wheels, he could ride it.
Bentlee loved the Lord and he read his Bible every night. Not many 9-year-olds have a favorite Bible verse, but he did. John 3:16 "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but have eternal life." God loved the world, so Bentlee did too. He loved his family, his friends, his teammates and his coaches. He stuck up for kids who couldn't stick up for themselves and he never felt hate or judgement towards anyone because of the color of their skin.
Bentlee was so active. He could be everywhere all at one time and as soon as he finished one thing he ran right into the next. He touched so many lives in his short time here. Bentlee was like a bright light in the darkness of this world.
Bentlee was a well-loved and admired student and classmate at Jefferson Elementary School. He loved his principal, classmates, and teachers so much, and they loved him. He was proud to be a Jaguar and could always be seen smiling in the halls. He loved his "Jeffe" family, and he was proud to "Lead like Jeffe" every single day. Forever a Jaguar!
Bentlee was preceded in death by his great grandparents: Rebecca Turner-Wilson, Elizabeth Harris, and Victoria Hall.
Bentlee is survived by his mother Destany Cook (Freddie Joe Gaines); father Cordarius Hicks; sisters: Keyonna Smith, Amarianna Hicks, and Zailianah Hicks; brother Ra'Meek Wood; grandparents: Kristina Cook, Kenneth Cook, Stephanie Harris-Hicks, and Sammy Hicks; great grandparents: Kenneth and Carsina Wilson, Charles and Cecelia Cook, John Harris, Jr., Samuel Hicks; aunts: Alanis Mayes, Tiasia Hicks, Deasia Floyd, and Taylor Morris; uncles: Issac Cook (Baylee Gilbert), Wesley McRoy, Matthew William, and Ross Hicks; cousins: Byran, Chandler, Trysten, Ellee, Alex, Sophia, and Brooklyn and many more. Bentlee is also survived by his beloved pets Percy and Kitty Bub.
Relatives and friends are invited to Bentlee's Life Celebration from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday and Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the funeral home with Reverend Mark Cole officiating.
