Benton Burnette Dick, affectionately known as, Ben, was born on August 23, 1947, in Hamilton, Missouri. He passed away on October 19, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, service and dedication that will be cherished by his family, friends and community.

Ben devoted 30 years of his life to the Kansas City Police Department, where he served before retiring in 2009. After his retirement, he continued to embody the spirit of service by working security at Longview College for three years and was also the owner of EPS Co. His commitment to protecting and serving others was evident throughout his career, and he was respected by his peers and those he served.

A proud alumnus of the University of Central Missouri, Ben obtained his Bachelor's Degree in business management, which laid the foundation for his career and entrepreneurial pursuits. Yet, his most significant accomplishment was found not in his professional achievements but in his devotion to his family. He loved his family with all his heart, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with them.

Those who knew Ben would describe him as ornery, a man who loved to tease his children and grandchildren, always ready with a witty remark or a playful jab. He had a "tell it like it is" demeanor known as his 'BENISMS', but beneath that lay a heart brimming with kindness and love.

In his free time, Ben enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He was an avid golfer, found solace in yard work, had a perfect lawn, and relished napping. He found great pleasure in watching westerns and home improvement shows and could often be heard listening to music and reminiscing about travels with his beloved wife, Linda. They shared a special bond, finding adventure and happiness in their time together. The couple loved visiting the lake, where cherished family memories were created.

Ben is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Dick; and his girls: Erika (Brandon) Ezzell and Melissa Jonas; grandchildren, Jackson (Emily) Ezzell, Sloane Jonas; sister, Theresa (Jim) Cox; brother he always wanted, Chuck McMullin; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and neighbors. all of whom carry forward his spirit and teachings. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary (Burnett) Dick; sisters, Twyla Shay, Wanda Johnson; Maude Utt; along with two nieces, Karey Utt and Debbie Liggatt.

Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Ben on October 26, 2024, at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, allowing all who knew and loved him the chance to celebrate an extraordinary life well-lived.

Ben will be dearly missed, but his legacy will continue in the hearts of his family.

In Lieu of flowers, Ben’s family suggests making contributions to Timothy Lutheran School of Blue Springs, KCPD Care Team or Midwest Transplant Network.
