Berman Dewayne "B.D." Kennedy, 87, of Chattanooga passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2026 surrounded by love and family.
Born October 22, 1938 in
Statesboro, Georgia to the late L.A. and Nita Kennedy, B.D. was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga.
For many years, B.D. built a successful snowball business that spanned across the Southeast, a testament to his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. In 1976, he went on to found Kennedy Jewelers and Wholesale, establishing a business rooted in integrity, craftsmanship, and community. He was widely respected as a businessman and was known for his honesty, dedication, and leadership.
A faithful servant, B.D. served as a deacon in his church, living his life guided by faith and service. Above all, he was a devoted family man who cherished his loved ones and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments.
His life leaves a lasting imprint of faith, hard work, generosity, and love – values that will continue through generations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2023 by his beloved wife, Barbara Ellen Mason Kennedy, who he married in May of 1959; and his siblings, William Kennedy, J.L. Kennedy, Henry Kennedy, Durell Kennedy, Ray Kennedy, Tony Kennedy, Ralph Kennedy, L.A. Kennedy, Lena Patterson and J.P. Kennedy.
He is survived by his three sons, Jeff (Michaele) Kennedy, Shane (Angela) Kennedy, both of Chattanooga, and Jeremy (Amy) Kennedy, Apison; sister, Margaret Neal, Atlanta, GA; his legacy continues through his grandchildren, Amber Kennedy, Josh Kennedy, Abaigaele Kennedy, Mason (Anna) Kennedy, Jackson Kennedy , Kollin Kennedy, and Karoline Kennedy.
He was also blessed with his great-grandchildren, Easton Kennedy, Aiden Phillips-Kennedy, Jackson Kennedy, and Nora Jane Kennedy; along with other family members that adored him dearly.
There will be a visitation Sunday, February 1st from 2:00 -4:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home,
7454 E. Brainerd Road.
