Bernadette "Berna" H. Gebhart, age 61, of De Smet, SD, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Avera Memorial Hospital in De Smet, SD
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in De Smet. Father Richard Baumberger and Father John Short will officiate.
Bernadette Hope Gebhart was born on July 19th, 1963, in Arizona to Della and Martin Bazan. She grew up in the Holbrook area, graduating from the Holbrook high school.
On June 15th, 1991, she was united in marriage with Bruce Gebhart at the Catholic Church in St. Johns, Arizona. After marriage, Bruce and Berna lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. During her time in Sioux Falls, Berna worked at McDonalds as a cashier.
In 1996, they moved to De Smet, SD where they raised their two boys. Upon moving, she began working at the Good Samaritan Center and the De Smet Memorial Hospital. Eventually, she found a home at Lyle Signs as a Printer Operator, where she worked for many years until her illness.
Berna cherished her time spent with family and friends, frequently engaging in lively card and board games such as golf and Sequence. As a devoted fan, she enthusiastically cheered on the Dallas Cowboys. Before her illness, she found fulfillment in helping Bruce with numerous tasks around the yard. Known for her straightforward and sincere nature, she wasn't afraid to share her opinion. She also lovingly braided her nieces' hair whenever asked.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Bruce, De Smet, SD; two sons, Jeremy, Balaton, MN; and Jesse (Madison), Memphis, TN; Grandson, Watson Giles, Memphis, TN; Sister, Cynthia Bazan, St. John's, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Berna was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, and 4 brothers.
