Dear Jean, I was one of Detta's hires in the 80's. .just another Irish las! Things worked so well there in those days in part due to Detta. . I remember going to her bridal shower and chatting about her plans! You completed her and hopefully, you will adjust and realize she is better now. Sincere and warm thoughts sent your way, Barbara and Dick Higgins in New Hampshire

Sympathy and prayers to you, Jean. We all felt we knew you through this wonderful, joy filled person. Detta welcomed me to BWH with her unforgettable brilliant smile and kind heart. She showed that the art was just as important as the science in a Nurse Director. She was truly a role model for so many- and dearly loved by all. A life well lived. A new star in the heavens is born

Detta was my nurse manager at BWH and was so good to all of us. Always a Lady, so kind and caring to everyone. She treated everyone with such dignity and respect, from an Attending to a housekeeper. Everyone got a hello and her bright smile. She truly made my nursing career & life better. Rest in the sweetest peace Detta.

Jean, I am so sorry for your loss. You and Detta were a perfect fit. Detta was very special to me as a mentor, encouraging me to do things I didn´t think were possible. As our Nurse Director she showed strength, kindness and leadership in everything she did. I will always remember her for her famous blueberry buckle and the beautiful roses she would bring in to brighten the day. Rest in peace dear Detta, you have earned your place in heaven.

Detta was a kind and generous woman and gave freely of her talents. At St. Mary's Parish, Holliston, we were in the same ministries together and saw each other often. For years, Detta made Irish bread for all six of the Lenten Soup Suppers during Advent and there was a line of people waiting for her and Jean to come in. After a while Jean figured out why we were there and would not give us any of the delicious crust until all the bread was ready for the table. The Lenten bread was a real treat. Thank you Detta for your kindnesses; you were appreciated and we miss you very much. Enjoy your eternal reward and don't forget us.

We met Detta and her dear husband, Jean, about fifteen years ago at the Swan House B&B in Camden, Maine and quickly became friends, meeting in Maine, nearly every October thereafter. She was a lovely person, and we are saddened by her passing. We are sure that God welcomed her to heaven saying, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
