Bernard Doordan Obituary

Bernard Patrick Doordan Jr. age 77, of North East, MD passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026, in Newark, DE, surrounded by love. Pat was born on June 20, 1948, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Bernard Patrick and Helen (McCarns) Doordan. When Pat was seven years old, his mother, Helen, passed away suddenly. His father later remarried Harriette McGuire, who lovingly raised Pat and remained a cherished presence in his life. In his youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed the outdoors with his father who taught him how to hunt. Pat graduated from Newark High School, where he played soccer and was lead guitar for his band the Cycles. After graduating from the University of Delaware, Pat served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves for 6 years. He became an insurance salesman for Topkis and Associates where he worked for many years becoming the top-grossing salesman in the country for several years in a row. Pat was passionate about developing real estate and he eventually started his own development company named after the farm he and his former wife Suzan purchased in 1979, Tides End Farm on the North East River.

Pat served on numerous boards and committees including the Cecil Business Leaders for Better Government Board of Directors, Cecil County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Cecil Chamber Upper Bay Rock Fish Tournament Committee, Cecil Chamber Government Relations Committee, Cecil County Economic Development Committee, Cecil County Zoning Commission, Union Hospital Board of Directors, West Nottingham Academy Board of Directors, and as Mount Aviat Academy Board President. He also sponsored and supported numerous teams and activities that his daughters and grandchildren participated in over the years.

Pat lived a life defined by hard work, adventure, kindness, humor, service, and devotion to the people he loved. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather, a cherished friend, and a larger-than-life presence to all who knew him. When he was not working, Pat spent much of his time on the river from Breathless to Rigged n Ready, boating, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed snow skiing, trap shooting, and scuba diving in the Florida Keys or the Cayman Islands. He entered the White Marlin Open in Ocean City, MD several times taking first prize in Mako. For his 50th birthday, he went skydiving with his daughters, which he fondly remembered as one of the greatest thrills of his life. Pat was known for his sharp wit, generosity, storytelling, love of his restored, red Farmall tractor, and his unwavering support of his family, friends and community. He loved to bringing people together, hosting everything from Halloween costume parties to Christmas caroling. His Fourth of July celebrations on the farm and his Thanksgiving Day "Turkey" shootouts at the barn were renowned, and as always, everyone was welcome!

Pat loved his family above all else. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and loved ones, who will carry forward his values, lessons, and love. He was preceded in death by parents, Helen McCarns Doordan, Bernard Patrick Doordan Sr., and Harriette McGuire Doordan, and his brother Joe Doordan. Pat is survived by his daughters Erin Doordan of Wilmington, DE; Maggie Doordan Tome (Chris) of North East, MD; and Kerry Doordan Famularo (Hilton) of North East, MD; and grandchildren Liam Breeding, Caleb Breeding, Finn Tome, Sadie Tome, Dominick Famularo, and Hazel Famularo; and his siblings Terry Doordan (Debbie) of Wilmington, DE; Mary Anne Shank of Leawood, KS; Marty Doordan (Chris) of Newark, DE.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 S. Main St., North East, MD and will be open to the public with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary Anne's Cemetery, North East, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Save the Bay Foundation at https://www.cbf.org/ in his memory. Pat will be deeply missed and forever fondly remembered.
