Bernard Patrick Glendon, Jr., 74, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with frontotemporal dementia.
Bernie was born on April 10th, 1951, at Norfolk Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, to late parents Bernard Patrick Glendon, Sr. and Rosemary Glendon (née Curley).
Bernie attended Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, where he sparked a profound love for history, and was one of two out of 104 students to earn an A in American History class. In addition to history, his proficiency in mathematics motivated him to create a board game called the Educational Football League (EFL), which was made to assist children in learning and improving their math skills. Bernie and the game were even featured in the newspaper, and it earned him the nickname, "Mister EFL."
Bernie married the love of his life, Lucy (née Grega) on September 5th, 1973. Bernie and Lucy enjoyed nearly 52 blissful years of marriage together; they met in Bernie's hometown of Norfolk at their place of work, Fass Brothers Fish House. Together they had three sons: Frank, Bernie III, and Mickey, who blessed them with daughters-in-law Suzanne, Kelly, Dana, and Lauren. He was the best "G-Pop" to his eight grandchildren: Mickey Jr., Ryan, Lucas, Josh, Katie and her husband TJ, Emma, Jake, and Eli; and three great-grandchildren: Rory, Finnley, and Baby G (due in October). He would often look around the room, full of his family, and recite the phrase, "all because two people fell in love."
Among Fass Brothers, he also worked at Merrill Lynch, Jack's Corned Beef, and various locations of Giant Food, ultimately retiring from their Timonium store in 2019. His love of Baltimore sports led him to volunteer for the Orioles "Designated Hitters" program in the 90's, selling season tickets to the local community. About 30 years later, he returned to the team to work as an usher.
As a devout Catholic, Bernie lectored at Most Precious Blood and St. Anthony's churches. He was also an avid supporter of the American Red Cross, donating blood and volunteering often and encouraging others to do so as well.
Bernie loved astronomy and he loved to teach others about it. You could often find him looking to the sky in awe and pointing to the planets, explaining in detail which one was which. He especially had a profound love for his hometown and Virginia Beach, but most of all, he loved to spend time there with Lucy and their sons and grandchildren.
Bernie was a good man. He was a man of God who always aimed to instill knowledge, wisdom, and compassion onto others. He was remarkably outgoing and made a friend in whatever direction he turned. The love he had for Lucy was something out of a dream; he loved her so intensely and made sure everyone else knew it, too. Bernie was infinitely proud of the life and family that he and Lucy built together.
Remaining to cherish Bernie are his brothers, Michael J. Glendon (Jeannie) and Howard Merrill, and sister Gail Labyak, among many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding Bernie in death are his brother, Patrick Glendon and sister, Rosemary Glendon.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Bernie's life at the Evans Life Celebration Home, 8800 Harford Road,
Parkville, MD on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Interment Private.
