Bernard “Bernie” Herman Loppnow, age 88, of St. Charles, Minnesota, passed away on January 24, 2026.

Bernie was born on November 3, 1937, alongside his twin brother, William “Bill” Loppnow, to Herman and Erma (Koepsel) Loppnow. A lifelong resident of St. Charles, Bernie was deeply rooted in his community and his faith at Berea Moravian Church.

On June 21, 1959, Bernie married the love of his life, Beatrice “Bea” Grams. Their love story began on the dance floor at the Pla-Mor Ballroom in Rochester, and together they shared more than 60 wonderful years of marriage. They built their life and raised their family on a farm north of St. Charles, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

After high school, Bernie began his career at IBM in Rochester, Minnesota. He later returned home to join his brothers, Vernon and Bill, in establishing LBI (Loppnow Brothers, Inc.) on the family farm. In addition to farming, Bernie was a proud Teamster and worked for Rochester Sand and Gravel until his retirement.

Bernie was an active and devoted member of Berea Moravian Church, where he served on numerous boards and projects, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and sang in the church choir. Known as a bit of a rascal, Bernie’s playful spirit and quick wit brought smiles to everyone who knew him.

He and Bea greatly enjoyed attending their three grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on over the years. Bernie could often be found watching his favorite westerns on television, spending time with his Collie dog, sipping a Diet Mountain Dew, and enjoying anything sweet. His joyful spirit and sense of humor will be deeply missed.

Bernie is survived by his children, Todd (Kim) Loppnow and Jodie (Gary) Heim; grandchildren, Adam Loppnow, Allissa (Ridge) Erdmann, and John (Jaynah) Heim; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Lynn, Emmett Allen, Vienna Mae, and Palmer Jay; and his brother, William “Bill” (Shirley) Loppnow.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bea; his parents, Herman and Erma Loppnow; his brother, Vernon Loppnow; and his sister, Donna (Ralph) Reilly.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Berea Moravian Church in St. Charles, MN at 10am. Visitation will begin at 9:30am.
