Bernard "Bernie" Masker, 84 of Conrad, IA passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Premier Estates of Toledo, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 11, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi - St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown, IA. A luncheon will follow the Mass at Oakwood Golf Course in Conrad. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Homes, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown. Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.
Bernie was born August 25, 1941, to Wilson and Albina (Balvin) Masker. He was raised in Tama, IA and attended Tama High School where he was very active in football and wrestling. He continued his football and wrestling career at Wartburg College, graduating in 1965. Along that journey he was united in marriage to Colene Casey in 1962. They went on to have three children and raised them in Grinnell, IA. Bernie took his love for athletics to be a devoted Grinnell Tiger Boost across all sport venues. In 1992, they relocated to Conrad and spent the next 13 years owning and operating That Place restaurant.
His retirement years were well spent golfing, following his grandchildren to their athletics, and of course watching his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes.
Bernie will be missed by his wife, Colene, of Conrad, his children; Kim (John) Dobbins of Springhill, TN, Kelly (Jay) Cherry of Wake Forest, NC, and Mike (Scott) Masker of Orlando, FL, two grandsons; Matt (Summer) Dobbins and Anthony (Heather) Dobbins, three great-grandsons, Jace Dobbins, Parks Dobbins and Maverick Dobbins, and five siblings; Dorothy Foreman, Wilbert (Larrie) Masker, Barb (Roger) Stevenson, Beverly Timm, and Kitty Dirks. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Prusha, three brothers-in-law, Leonard Prusha, Wayne Foreman and Alan Timm, and his Balvin cousins, Larry, Steve, and Jerry.
