It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Bernardo Garcia Gonzalez, who left this world far too soon on March 31, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Born on April 23, 2007, in Gijon, Spain, 6 years in Spain, 2 in Mexico and 9 years and 11 months in Houston (U.S. Naturalized). Bernardo brought joy and light to everyone around him during his brief but impactful life. He was a shining example of kindness, empathy, and the boundless love that can exist in a young heart.
Bernardo was a senior at Cinco Ranch High School, where he excelled academically and was pursuing studies in Cisco Networking Engineering and Cyber Security at MCTC. His intelligence and inquisitive nature led him to be accepted at both the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas at San Antonio for a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a focus on Cyber Security and Networking. Bernardo's passion for learning was matched only by his dedication to supporting his peers and friends, fostering a spirit of collaboration and kindness in all of his endeavors.
Beyond his academic achievements, Bernardo was a young man of varied interests and hobbies. His vibrant personality shone through in his love for gaming, table games, kayaking, and swimming. He cherished spending time with friends, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His favorite color was blue, reflecting his calm and serene nature, and he had a particular fondness for Spanish cuisine, Texan BBQ, and pizza-sharing meals with loved ones was always a highlight for him.
As his parents, we are incredibly proud of the remarkable young man Bernardo was becoming. He taught us invaluable life lessons through his innate kindness and compassionate outlook. Bernardo envisioned a world free from suffering, where cancer would be eradicated and conflicts would cease to exist. He believed that love and affection were remedies for even the most challenging moments, often hugging and kissing away our troubles. His belief was simple yet profound: love is never expressed enough.
Bernardo had a unique ability to support those facing unfair circumstances, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. He lived a fulfilling life, guided by a clear conscience and a heart that overflowed with sincere love for others. He approached life with a kindness that could break through the toughest of exteriors, touching many with his gentle spirit.
In remembering Bernardo, we are encouraged to follow his example: to shed our biases, open our hearts, and support one another in building a better world. He was kind, communicative, empathetic, and possessed an extraordinary emotional intelligence that allowed him to connect with others deeply.
Bernardo is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents. He is survived by his devoted mother, Paz, his loving father, Bernardo, and a close-knit family of uncles and cousins who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Schmidt Funeral Home,1344 West Grand Parkway South in Katy. Immediately following, all are invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Bernardo during a reception in the Reception Suite.
