Bernette "Bernie" Catherine Schuh a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at her home in De Pere, WI from natural causes on January 6th 2025 at age 90 with her family by her side. Bernette was the youngest of three children, and was born in Chilton, WI on February 24, 1934 to Erwin and Erma Hintz. She was married to Eugene (Gene) Schuh on August 18, 1956, and their 64 year marriage was a testament to their commitment to family.
She enjoyed cooking, crafting of all sorts, camping, and finding joy in the simple pleasures that brought her family together. Family was the cornerstone of Bernie's life. She loved to have everyone over to her house for holidays, birthday celebrations or any time. She always prepared large meals with multiple entrées, sides and desserts. You never left her house hungry, in fact you almost always would leave with leftovers for the next day. She was a giving person and always thought of others first. When asked what she wanted, she would normally answer based on what you liked, not what she really liked or wanted.
Bernie had a zest for life that was evident in her positive attitude and her love for games, always eager to play cards and embrace the thrill of competition. Her unwavering spirit was often captured in her signature response to the question of how she was doing-she would cheerfully declare, "TERRIFIC."
Bernie's warmth and enthusiasm for life will be deeply missed by family and friends. Her legacy of love, positivity, and joyful memories will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Bernie is survived by her kids: Mark (Kathryn), Appleton-WI; Michael (Jennifer), Winthrop-WA; Todd, Combined Locks-WI; Timothy, Combined Locks-WI; Michelle, Wauwatosa-WI; and Jay, Greenfield-WI; as well as five grandchildren: Carlye, Nicole (Casey) Curi, Lauren, Erin and Kelly; great grandchild Harper Curi; and brother Erwin Hintz. Brothers and sisters-in-law Donald (Patricia) Schuh, Roger (Nancy) Schuh and many loving relatives and friends.
Greeting Bernie in heaven first will be her husband Gene who died February 15, 2021, her mother Irma, father Erwin and sister Patricia Coenen. Her brothers and sisters-in-law Robert (Isabella) Schuh and Vernon (Ann) Schuh; her sisters and brothers-in-law Mary (Merlin) Kelpinski, Gladys (Harry) VandenBoogard; her sister-in-law Betty Jane; her brother's wife Patricia and her brother-in-law Irvan Coenen. Neice Candice Coenen and nephew Thomas Schuh.
The Schuh family would like to thank the staff at Unity Hospice for the support, kindness and care they provided Bernie and the Schuh family.
Upon her wishes a private family service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes church in De Pere, WI. In lieu of flowers, Bernie requested donations be made to Paul's Pantry, 1520 Leo Frigo Dr, Green Bay, WI 54302, or online at www.paulspantry.org.
