Shepherdstown, WV – Bernice Ann Cline, 78, of Shepherdstown, WV passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Willow Tree Healthcare Center Charles Town, WV.

She was born on January 25, 1947, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Ervin Thomas Cline and Virginia Lee (Boncord) Cline Gay.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulis S. Johnson on July 18, 2017. They were married in 2010.

Bernice graduated from Middletown High School. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Shepherd College.

She was employed as a registered nurse with the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV for over 30 years until her retirement.

She was of the Pentecostal faith. She later attended Williams Memorial United Methodist Church in Shenandoah Junction, WV with her late husband.

A gentle soul with a warm heart, Bernice was known for her love of quiet joys and simple pleasures. She found endless delight in a good book. Her hands were rarely still-needle point was her art, and she created countless handmade gifts that brought comfort and beauty to those around her. Her home was a haven for animals, and she had a special place in her heart for every creature, from stray cats and dogs, always offering them love and care. She loved all types of animals and enjoyed birdwatching.

She was a member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the late 70's and 80's.

She is survived by her nephew Carl Cline and his wife Stacey of Sharpsburg, MD; niece Marie Cline of Frederick, MD; 5 great nephews and 1 great niece.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Jay Cline, Sr. and Bruce Cline; nephew Jay Cline, Jr.; niece Melissa Cline.

Graveside services were held on August 27, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Middletown, MD with Darren Longerbeam officiating.
