PEKIN ~ Bernice H. Garrett, 97, of pekin, passed away at 6:51 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Generations of Peoria.
Born March 29, 1921 in Iron Mountain, Michigan to John and Anna (Fliss) Lis, she married Joseph A. Harazmus on May 10, 1941 in Chicago. He died December 19, 1976. She later married Russell F. Garrett on March 29, 1979 in Las Vegas. He died August 14, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
Surviving are one son, Gerald H. (Barb) Harazmus of Pekin; one daughter, Joanne M. Symoniak of Pekin; five grandchildren, Jerry and Jamie Harazmus, Jacqueline Brooks, Anthony (Christina) Symoniak and Annamarie (Thomas) Nolin and seven great-grandchildren.
Bernice had worked on the assembly line at Sunbeam in Chicago for 25 years.
An avid bingo player, Bernice enjoyed reading, cooking and attending various activities at the Miller Center. She was also a very artistic person, who enjoyed painting.
Bernice was a longtime member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at UnityPoint Health Hospice, especially Mae, for the exceptional care Bernice received.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleums in Justice.
Memorial contributions may be given to Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 303 South 7th Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554.
