An avid reader, Bernice found joy in her daily Bible study and Guideposts devotions. Her hobbies included bird watching, tending to her flowers, and playing bingo. She also enjoyed the annual shopping trip with her church family and held a special affection for her cats, particularly her beloved pet, "Blackie."
In addition to her parents, Ms. Griggs was preceded in death by her brother Charles "Sonny" Bailey; husband, Rayvon Griggs; daughter-in-law, Sandy Griggs; her grandson, Mark Davis; and her cherished dog, "Pepper"
She is survived by her children: Lynne (Allan) Davis of Cheraw, SC; Karen (Kendall) Smith of Chesterfield, SC; William Ray Griggs of Winston Salem, NC; and Barry (EM) Griggs of Wadesboro, NC. Ms. Griggs was also a proud grandmother to Donna (Steve) Schaap of Iowa; Dawn (Larry) Lewis of Hartsville, SC; Holly (Bryan) King of Ruby, SC; Jessica Woodall (Mac McCormick) of Chesterfield, SC; Kari (Eric) Burleson of Charlotte, NC; Avner Griggs of Wadesboro, NC; and one grandchild who is soon to arrive. Additionally, she leaves behind nine great-grandchildren and her brother, Michael (Artis) Bailey of Hartsville, SC, along with special friends Doris Johnson, Grace Stack, Elma Jenkins, Bernice Ratliff, and her beloved Cross Roads Baptist Church family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield and caregivers Sherry Huneycutt, Marilyn Crowley, Gloria Curtis, Brenda Curry, and special caretaker, 9 year old Nancy Ayala for their exceptional care and support during this time.
In honor of her memory, donations may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church, located at P.O. Box 72, Ruby, SC 29741.
