John Michael Griggs

John Michael Griggs, age 73, of Millsboro, DE, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, MD.

Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Charles E. Griggs and Claudine V. (Ashwell) Griggs. The youngest of three children, John grew up in Wheaton, MD, and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1970.

John worked as a sprinkler fitter and was a proud member of Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 669 since 2000. Over the years he lived in Maryland, Texas, and Florida before spending nearly the past decade in Coastal Delaware. John was a lifelong sports fan, especially of the Washington Redskins. He enjoyed his retirement living near the water in Long Neck and was a regular at the Crab Barn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Claudine, and his siblings, Glenn Griggs (Rosemary) and Barbara Childress (Sam). He is survived by his son, Matthew Griggs (Megan), and his two grandchildren, Curtis and Abby Griggs. He is also survived by his nephews Christopher Childress (Justyna) and Keith Childress, as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.

John is also survived by his beloved dog, Buddy. He would be happy to know that Buddy is nearby, living on a farm with several new friends.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE 19966. Friends and family may gather beginning at 11:00 A.M. Following the memorial service, a reception will follow. A private internment will take place at a later date.
