Bernice June “Bernie” Hamilton, 93, of Marysville passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 at Memorial Gables.
She was born May 3, 1930 in York Center to the late William Harold and Charlotte Elizabeth (nee Lee) Fawley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Lloyd Hamilton in 1967 while serving in Vietnam; a sister, Beatrice (Robert) Hamilton of Richwood; a brother, Kenneth Fawley of Richwood; and a grandchild, Kristina Hamilton.
A loving homemaker, she was also employed for 28 years with Ranco in Plain City as an inspector and brazer operator before retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and attended York Center High School. She was active as a board member of the Windsor Senior Citizens during the time she lived at Windsor Apartments. She loved to crochet, creating many blankets for family and friends as well as unique home décor. She also enjoyed bowling with her twin sister “Peg” and the Windsor Seniors.
Bernie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior as an older adult, well after retiring. Following her conversion, she became active at Calvary Baptist, volunteering at Vacation Bible School, in Operation Shoebox, and serving at various meals held by and for those at the church whether it be a potluck or a family meal service.
She is survived by her children, William (Molly) Hamilton of Raymond, Wayne (Ruth Ann) Hamilton of Raymond, Charles (Peggy) Hamilton of Marysville, Deborah (Frank) Gerner of Melbourne, KY and Mark Hamilton of Marysville. Bernie loved her children and reared them largely on her own. When her children married, she extended her love to their respective spouses, always including them and becoming close friends with her daughters- and son-in-law.
Bernie was survived by 12 Grandchildren with whom she loved playing eucre at family holiday events; Stacia, Adam, Ron (Pam), Doug, John, Elizabeth (Jesse), Matthew (Cory), Timothy (Bianna), Jessica, Jared, Danielle and Kyle knew that if they chose Grandma as their partner, they’d better pay attention to who dealt, the cards played, and to never-ever get “eucred”. Grandma Hamilton won handedly, forgave easily, and passed on her love of playing cards to her grandchildren who have so far given her 18 great-grandchildren including Adrianna, Alishia, Mason, Madison, Trinity, Rebecca , Carson, Annalise, Quinn, Katherine , Haezel, Leila , Aiden, Mason, Luca , Skylar, Isabella, Brayden and Harper. Bernie was also survived by her sister, Alma Grace Quest of Canton; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Services to celebrate Bernie’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 27, 2023 at the Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Reverend Matt Schiesser will officiate and burial will follow at the York Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
