Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice Lou Lowery, age 90, will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the Hunt Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Bradford Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 11:30 until service time.
Bernice L. Taylor Mathis Lowery was born and raised in Bradford, TN, where she graduated from Bradford High School in 1952. She went to work at Brown Shoe Company in Trenton, TN right out of high school where she worked for 40 years before retiring. She grew up a faithful attending member of Pleasant View (Skullbone) Church of Christ.
On August 30, 1952, she married Charles Ray Mathis. They had three children, Pam, Tony, and Karen. Ray later passed away from kidney disease at the age of 33 on February 11, 1966.
She later married Richard T. Lowery on November 25, 1986, and moved to Trenton, TN, where they attended Trenton Church of Christ until Richard’s death in December of 2012.
After his passing, she relocated back to Bradford to be closer to her children and her grandchildren. She has been a resident of Dogwood Pointe Assisted Living for the last 18 months.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Maudie Lee (Parker) Taylor; husband, Charles Ray Mathis and husband, Richard T. Lowery; and one great-granddaughter, Brianna Nichole Mathis.
She is survived by three children; Pamela (Harold) Guy, Tony (Betty) Mathis, and Karen (Paul) Roberson of Newbern, TN; two sisters; Brenda Bagwell of Mayfield, Ky, and Alice (David) Roberson of Bradford; six grandchildren, Cory (Nichole) Mathis, Stephanie (Danny) Moore, Jerod (Laura) Mathis, Leslie (Wayne) Graves, Travis Roberson, and Trent (Vickie) Roberson; and eleven great-grandchildren; Jeb Allen, Lanee Mathis, Calley Graves, Brayden Graves, Bailey Huber, Jake Moore, Deklyn Roberson, Jerrod Moore, Cayden Roberson, Jentry Moore, and Callum Mathis.
Pallbearers include Cory Mathis, Jerod Mathis, Trent Roberson, Travis Roberson, Wayne Graves, Jeb Allen, and Danny Moore.
