FUNERAL SERVICE AND VISITATION HAS BEEN CHANGED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER ON WEDNESDAY
VISITATION WILL BE HELD THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 2025 5:00 TO 8:00 PM AND FUNERAL SERVICE ON FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2025 2:00 P.M.

September 27, 1963 - March 29, 2025
Mr. Jeffery Alan "Jeff " Smith, age 61, of Rutherford, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at his home. Funeral service for Mr. Smith will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, in the Chapel of Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Rutherford, with Bro. Randy Crews officiating with burial in the Rutherford Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the Chapel of Karnes and Son Funeral Home in Rutherford.
Jeffrey Alan "Jeff " Smith was born September 27, 1963, to the late Nathan and Mary Jane Ledsinger Smith, Mr. Smith was an Attorney at Law, as well as being an owner of H&R Block Franchise in this area. He was a member of the Rutherford First Baptist Church, along with serving as City Attorney for Dyer, and Rutherford. Mr. Smith graduated from Bradford High School and went on to further his education at the University of Tennessee at Martin with BS degree in accountancy, then received a master’s degree in business Admin at the University of Memphis, in addition to his Law Degree from University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and had practiced law for 34 years. Jeff bough his first H&R Block in Dyersburg in 1994, and soon expanded with the addition of the Martin, Union City, and South Fulton locations and completed his franchise with the addition of the Ripley and Humboldt locations.
Jeff is survived by his two loyal fur babies, Nate and Jake; his sisters, Jill Smith Koback and Jerianne Smith Poe and husband Travis; two nieces, Samantha Koback and Ansley Poe; one nephew, Asher Poe; his aunt, Addie Rose Brelsford, and two uncles, Jere Ledsinger and Joe Ledsinger. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Mary Jane Smith, his brother-in-law, Kevin Koback, and his fur babies, Tater, Lilly, Daisy
