Bernice Jackson Miller, 96, of Johnson City, formerly of Morristown, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at American House in Bristol, Tennessee.

Born in Thorn Hill, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Fred Kermit Jackson and Sarah Stapleton Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Peter Miller; two sisters, Ova Fay Jackson and Ruby Jackson Johnson; and a brother, RG Jackson.

She was a devout Christian and throughout her adult life she served in a variety of roles which included organist, teacher, and choir member at the various churches she attended. In her later life, she was a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City. She was also involved in Senior Adult Ministry through the Nolichucky Baptist Association.

She worked as a teller at Hamilton National Bank in Morristown and later with the Tennessee Department of Human Services, retiring in 1992 and relocating with her husband, Pete, to Johnson City. Outside of work and church, Bernice was a caterer known for her wedding cakes, she was an avid gardener and an accomplished seamstress.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Eric Mustain of Johnson City, and Annis and Stephen Evans of Blountville; two granddaughters, Margaret and Jeff Montgomery of Johnson City, and Katherine and 2nd Lt. Mark Brown, USMC, stationed in Okinawa, Japan; her close sister-in-law, Audrey Jackson, and niece, Tammy McKay, both of Asheville, NC; and several beloved nieces and nephews from the Miller family.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow, led by Pastor Clay Austin. A private committal will take place at Mountain Home National Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of American House, especially the Memory Care staff who loved her like family. Also, special thanks to the staff of Gentiva Hospice and especially her hospice nurse, Brittany Hale, for her extraordinary care and support to Mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
