Mrs. Bernice Buttry Reed, 86, of Hagerstown, died early Tuesday morning, October 21, 2025, at her residence. She was the wife of Herman L. Reed, Jr, her husband of 56 years.
Born March 25, 1939, in Bethesda, she was a daughter of the late Grant Willard and Lennie Bell Seals Buttry.
In addition to taking care of her home and family, Mrs. Reed worked for Burger King in Frederick County, first for 10 years on the Golden Mile, then for five years in Myersville.
She was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God.
Surviving, besides her husband, are her children, Rose M. Haga of Hagerstown, Peggy Lowe of Thurmont, Dinah Reall and Louie Lowe, both of Hagerstown, and Sherry and Tommy L. Reed, both of Frederick; by 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 9 great. great grandchildren; as well as a sister Madge M. Lowe of the Eastern Shore; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and sisters and brothers in-law.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cindy Sensenig-Reed; great children Cody Sensenig, Chloe N. Hamby and Cazmarin S. Sullivan; and sisters Velma R. Buttry and Ollie Mae Shrewsberry.
The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, on Sunday, October 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be at her church, Virginia Avenue Church of God, 17306 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, on Monday, October 27, at 11:00 AM. Her pastor, Rev. Shawn M. Bushman, will officiate. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
