A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the St. Peter's Catholic Church in
Gueydan, LA for Ms. Bernice Breaux Suire, 102, who passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Harbor Hospital in Lake Charles, LA.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Matthews Funeral Home in
Gueydan, LA, from 10:00 AM until her mass at 2:00 PM. A rosary will be recited by the Cursillo Group at 1:00 PM. Reverend Stephen Irudaysamy will officiate the services.
Interment will follow the services at the Gueydan Cemetery.
Ms. Bernice was born in
Gueydan, LA on November 19, 1923, to the late Mr. Jenius Breaux of Morse, LA and Mrs. Aspasie Breaux of Mermentau, LA. She was a native and resident of
Gueydan, Louisiana for 92 years; the last 10 years she presided in Lake Charles, Louisiana, at the Villa Maria Retirement Home. As an inspiration to all who knew her, Ms. Bernice held unwavering faith and support of her Catholic religion. Bernice was a proud member of the Ladies Altar Society, serving as secretary, as well as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, serving as treasurer, secretary and Regent. She went on to be voted Catholic Daughter of the year 1995. Beyond her vocation of faith, Bernice's heart overflowed with love for her family and friends. Becoming a devoted wife, mother of six, Maw Maw to forty, a good Christian woman and prayer warrior. Her kindness and sweet soul will live in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing and loving her.
Bernice is survived by her sons, Richard J. Breaux, Jr. (Marilyn) of Lake Charles, LA and Larry Breaux, Sr. (Sylvia) of Lake Arthur, LA; daughters, Debra Wilks (Mike McGuirk) of Scott, LA and Judy Comeaux (Dale Parish) of Orange, TX; daughter in law, Rita Breaux of Metairie, LA; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jenius Breaux and Aspasie Trahan Breaux; first husband, Richard J. Breaux, Sr.; second husband, Elton "Blackie" Suire; sons, Wayne Breaux and Ronald Breaux; sons in law, Kenneth Wilks and Gavin Comeaux; great granddaughter, Alyson Breaux.
Pallbearers chosen to carry Ms. Bernice to her place of rest between her two husbands will be grandchildren, Ricky Breaux, Jason Breaux, Larry Breaux, Jr., Glenn Breaux, Todd Comeaux and Chris Wilks.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the caregivers and staff of Villa Marie Retirement Center and the staff of Harbor Hospice, both of Lake Charles, LA, for the kindness and special care they provide.
