Berniece was born in Millington, MI on September 15, 1923, daughter of the late Earnest and Lucille (Wilson) Stebbins. A proud graduate of Millington High School at just 16, she was as driven as she was intelligent. She began her career with the local Farm Bureau, taking on many roles - bookkeeper, clerk, stenographer, and buyer - always bringing integrity and diligence to everything she did. Together with her husband, Lloyd Turnbull, they founded a dry-cleaning business and also served as the Treasurer for the Village of Millington. Later, they moved to
Davison, MI, where she helped build both a home and a strong foundation for her growing family. Even as she devoted herself to raising her children, she continued to work whenever she could, eventually earning a respected position as Supervisor of Employment and Services at the Post Office in Flint. Berniece's love for life extended far beyond her work. She found joy in simple pleasures - reading a good book, dancing in the living room to Lawrence Welk or the sounds of Hee Haw, or gathering with friends at community parties. In her later years, she embraced an active lifestyle, enjoying golf, bowling, shuffleboard, card games and occasional trips to the casino. She especially cherished the friendships and good times at Gulf Air Village, where her zest for life remained as strong as ever. At her core, Berniece was deeply devoted to those she loved. She treasured her children, her parents, and the husbands who shared her journey. She was strong-willed, thoughtful, intelligent, and always ready for a spirited discussion. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind or stand up for what she believed in - often with a sharp wit and unwavering clarity. Berniece leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life fully lived. Those who knew her will remember her as a woman of substance and strength, who danced through life with grace and purpose. "If you can't say something nice, do not say anything at all!"
Berniece is survived by 4 children, Lloyd Tod Turnbull, Denise Lynn Baker, Sandra Lee (Dave) Turnbull-Skinner and Patricia Lou Turnbull; 7 grandchildren, Riley Cherie Turnbull, Charles Lloyd, Dustin Wayne Turnbull, Joel Patrick (Charlie) Atkins, Kathryn Marie (Martin) Chubb, Kimberly Kay (Shane) Bell and Stacy Nicole (Aaron) Carroll; 9 great-grandchildren, Mia Rose Mendonca, Carson Michelle Bell, Benjamin Davis Carroll, Nolan Jay Sutters, Nora Leone Atkins, Emmett Lloyd Chubb, Edison Jacob Chubb, Brandon and Camden; many other loving family members widely spread all over the country, step-grandchildren and dear friends who were part of her extended family in Gull Air Village. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Lucille Stebbins; 3 husbands, Lloyd Turnbull, Lyle Osmondson and Kenneth Stults; son, Mark Wayne Turnbull; 5 brothers; Stebbins and Turnbull in-laws.
