Emerson Family,
Bert will always be family. "Big Bert", growing up and even now as an old man myself. I can't remember a time in my life that didn't have Bert and Sandy and the kids. My parents would "pop-in", and they would play Euchre and drink beer and smoke cigarettes. All of us kids would play outside. Didn't matter if it was at our house in Silverwood or at Bert and Sandy's on Hurds Corner Road. Cook outs, pig and/or cow butchering, building garages or pole barns or little Bert's house, my dad´s house, open houses, mowing lawns, whatever else, it didn't matter, Bert and Sandy were always helping out and were our parents, part II. What Bert and Sandy said, was as if our parents said it themselves. Us kids would go in the house and sip a PBR or an Old Milwaukee. Get some sweet tea out of the fridge and back outside we went.
I got to visit with Bert and Julie just this past July 2025. Bert took me out on the golf cart, and we rode the property. Bert over the years has shown me what hard work and discipline can do. He's dabbled in everything. Does anyone remember when he was cutting glass bottles and making stuff out of them? Does anyone remember when he had a dark room in the house for photography? Before Google and the smartphone, there was Big Bert!! He will forever be a bright spot, a smile, an upbeat positive influence in my life. When he talked, I listened, because I knew what ever he was saying would mean something to me later on.
I'm so happy that my dad and Bert became such good friends and remained so over the years through the marriages and divorces, Bert and Sandy and family never wavered. Friends through and through, no matter the circumstances.
My thoughts, prayers, and my heart are with the Emerson family, Julie, Donna, and Bert and all the kids and to all of Bert and Sandy's friends. Their memories will live on, and their love will never be forgotten.
Much Love,
Ken
