Berta Moreno Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hughes Funeral Homes - Oak Cliff Chapel - Dallas on Oct. 1, 2025.
Berta T. Moreno
12/23/1930 - 12/24/2024
Berta was the 6th of 7 children born to Gabriel Tamayo Sr. and Guadalupe Salinas in Lockhart, Texas. Faith and family were most important to her as she learned skills as a seamstress, musician, gardener, carpenter and the meaning of community service.
Berta became a wife and mother, instilling these same virtues and values in her children. After raising them, she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing, and became a practitioner of Natural Family Planning. She continued her education and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. She also was recognized as one of the Great 100 Nurses in Dallas by the Texas Nurses Association.
Berta's faith was also shaped by Sister Gabriel Ann, her sister, who was the Mother Superior to the Order of Missionary Catechist of Divine Providence. Berta was an active member and volunteer of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, a member of the Council of Catholic Women, and a board member to the Low Birth Weight Development Center. She had the opportunity to see St. John Paul II in Mexico and even sat behind St. Mother Teresa on her visit to Dallas.
Berta loved to travel with her family throughout the United States and countries of Mexico, Spain, Poland, and Italy.
Berta passed away at home on Christmas Eve surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 58 years, Herbert Moreno, and son Luis Jaime Moreno. She is survived by 4 sons: Mario (Cynthia), Armando (Judy), Ben (Iliana), and Gustavo (Judith), four daughters: Rita, Julie (Tyrone) Taylor, Elsa (Russell) Shaw, and Rose (Noah) Sessions, 32 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Donations can be made to the Low Birth Weight Development Center, Missionary Catechist of Divine Providence or charity of your choice. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Berta, please visit our Tree Store.
