Bertha Boczar Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Chapel at Boucher Funeral Home, LLC on Oct. 19, 2025.
Bertha E. Boczar (nee Taylor) passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on October 16, 2025, just 8 days after celebrating her 98th birthday. Bertha was predeceased by her husband Michael J. Boczar and great-granddaughter Lucy. She was the devoted mother of Kathleen Van Pelt (Martin), Karen Garibaldi (Peter) and Michael (Betty Ann). She has six loving and successful grandchildren - Peter, Nicole, Andrew, Michael, Mark and Matthew. The real lights in her life are the 9 (soon to be 10) little ones who call her GG - her angel Lucy, Isabel, Chloe, Charlie, Marley, Della, Michael, Ava, Wyatt and one on the way.
Bertha was born and raised in South Philadelphia. She worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard where she met an Engineering Intern who became the love of her life and husband of 56 years. They settled in Yeadon where they resided for 48 years. She was very active in Saint Louis Parish and school, and passed on a long, lasting legacy of faith to her family. Activities included CYO sports, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and neighborhood gatherings. Once her children were grown, Bertha embarked on a 15 year career in retail at Clover stores, where she made many new friends.
Wanting to be closer to family, Bertha and Michael moved to New Jersey in 2000 to Bridlewood Estates in Deptford. Her home had a lovely deck surrounded by woods where she developed a new hobby of feeding and watching all sorts of birds, including lovely hummingbirds. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader in her spare time.
In 2019, being confined to a wheelchair, she made her final move to All American Assisted Living in Washington Township. She enjoyed a very active lifestyle, participating in almost every physical, mental, social and creative activity they offered. She developed deep and lasting friendships and was very loved by residents and staff alike. She really enjoyed every day with her "new family" at AAAL and they surrounded her with love and outstanding care to the very end.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 8:30am to 10am in The Chapel at BOUCHER FUNERAL HOME, 1757 Delsea Drive, Deptford, NJ 08096.
