Bertha Doucette Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - South Jordan on Oct. 23, 2025.
Our beautiful mother, Bertha "Bobbie" Emond Doucette, 84 passed away on the morning of October 21, 2025 after battling a multiple-month recovery from a stroke.
Bobbie was born January 14, 1941 in Lewiston, Maine to Raymond Louis Emond and Bertha Mary Woods Emond. She attended Lewiston High School where her brother Ray (Yes, there were multiple Rays in her life), who was a senior at the time (she was an incoming Freshman), asked her eventual partner Raymond Doucette (who was a Junior), to look out for her the next year as he was the only person he trusted to make sure she was ok after her brother graduated. (Ironically, she never believed in that story ;))
She graduated with a BA in Biology from Bates College and married the love of her life, Raymond Doucette on June 6, 1964. She's the mother of four sons, John, James, Michael and Joseph with whom have contributed 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (soon to be 12) to her brood.
Bobbie worked a number of jobs throughout college and then as a stay-at-home mom while raising her three boys. She followed her husband through six years of military service during the Vietnam war and settled in St. Louis, MO following his discharge. She and Raymond joined the LDS church in 1975 and were subsequently sealed in the Salt Lake Temple the following year.
After relocating with her family to Bountiful, Utah in 1979, she continued to raise her three boys and served in a variety of roles in church and community. Among her many church accomplishments:
• Various youth and primary callings
• Called to serve as an English language assistant with the newly formed Spanish-language branches in SLC
• Over a period of 8 years, served a medical mission in the Newborn Resuscitation Program, training doctors, nurses and midwifes in Mexico, Venezuela, Central America and the Congo. The program reduced the infant mortality rate in the areas where they served from a high of 85% down to less than 20%.
• Served as an adult-education specialist in the LDS Church PATHWAY (on-line higher education) program for six years.
• Served as a temple worker in the Tucson, Arizona Temple
Bobbie loved to cook! That was one of her greatest gifts and all her kids and friends would come over to eat her food as often as possible. She also enjoyed skiing, biking, swimming and boating.
After their retirement to Tucson and medical missions, they both moved back to Salt Lake City to live with their oldest son John. There they continued to serve in various callings while Ray was recovering from a stroke sustained shortly before their move back to Utah.
In June of this year, Bobbie suffered a stroke and for the past four months was struggling with her recovery. She passed away quietly in the morning with the chaplain by her side.
She is survived by her husband Ray and her two sisters, Mary Begert and Cathy Champaine; three sons John, Mike and Joe; her 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (soon to be 12).
Friends are invited to attend funeral services in the Chapel at the Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Funeral Home, 1007 W South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan UT 84095 on Tue, Oct 28th at 11:00am. A small graveside service will follow at the South Jordan City Cemetery at Noon. Public visitation will begin at 10am.
