Bertha Faye Erwin passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at the age of 92. A lifelong resident of Denton, Texas, Bertha was born on June 29, 1933, to Lloyd K. Dutton and Fay B. Oliver-Dutton. She graduated from Denton High School and continued her education at the University of North Texas.

On December 23, 1951, Bertha married the love of her life, Curtis Erwin. They shared the distinction of being one of the first couples to wed in the newly completed Cole Chapel at the First United Methodist Church of Denton. Bertha initially dedicated herself to her home and children, Carol and Curt, managing their household with care and devotion. In 1970, she began a fulfilling career at the University of North Texas as a Production Artist in Printing Services. She took great pride in her work and deeply valued the lifelong friendships she formed during her years at UNT.

Upon her retirement in December 1995, Bertha embraced her favorite role as she said, “the proud MaMaw to her beautiful and precious grandchildren." She delighted in attending her grandchildren’s many activities and cherished every moment spent with her family. Retirement also allowed her more time with neighborhood friends and her church community. A talented quilter, Bertha shared her talent and love by gifting handmade quilts to those she held dear.

A woman of steadfast faith, Bertha was a long-time member of Grace Temple Baptist Church, where she was baptized in 1957, and later joined Gateway United Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Fay Dutton; her stepfather, Truman Reynolds; her beloved husband, Curtis Erwin; and her sister, Peggy Cornelius.

Bertha is survived by her sister, Nancy King; her children, Carol Erwin and Curt Erwin (Lisa); and her cherished grandchildren: Erin Neill (Jeremy), Michelle Queen, Ryan Erwin, Hayden Erwin (Anna), and Taylor Otto (Ben). She was the adored great-grandmother of Charlotte, Georgia, Penelope, Quinn, and Theodore, and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was affectionately known as Aunt “Bo”.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Gateway United Baptist Church in Denton, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at Gateway United Baptist Church.

Our family is profoundly grateful to the loving caregivers at Golden Meadows Assisted Living and the compassionate team at Concho Hearts Hospice. Your kindness brought immense peace and joy to Bertha and our family over the past 14 months.
