Bertha Edith Hill, 89, of Belleville, Kansas, died November 19, 2025 at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Center in Enterprise, Kansas.
Bertha was born August 2, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter of Wilford Waldo and Harriet Shirley (Knox) Huse. The family moved to Ellendale, North Dakota, where Bertha attended school and graduated from Ellendale High School.
In 1956, Bertha was united in marriage to Frank Allan Hill in Tucson, Arizona. Together they lived in San Manuel, Arizona while Frank worked in a copper mine and Bertha cared for their young son, Mark. They then moved to Craig, Colorado and then Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Her son, Mark, lost his hearing at a young age and this drove Bertha to put his education and well being first. After unsuccessfully trying to find a school in Colorado for him, the family moved to Belleville, where he was accepted and enrolled in school. Bertha was adamant that Mark received a good education and she was driven in doing this.
Throughout her life, Bertha worked alongside her family in many facets. She worked as a waitress and Federal Forrest Service Contractor while living in Colorado. After moving to Kansas she continued in the forestry work and also did contract cleaning, interior wallpapering and various jobs in the Belleville area.
Bertha loved life and enjoyed making it fun for people around her. Her family was very important and she loved being a lifelong Jehovah’s Witness. Bertha served as a Pioneer in the organization for many years and enjoyed teaching people about the Bible. Spending time outdoors with her garden or flowers and hiking the back country were things she enjoyed.
Preceding her in death is her husband, Frank in 1983; son, Mark Hill; and parents.
Survivors include her daughter, Beth Marie Hill; brother David Harold (Belinda) Huse; sister, Becky Huse, all of Belleville; and nephew, Kip (Lacie) Huse, Marysville, KS.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 29, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Belleville.
