Sarah Jane Brooks, 76, of Marysville, KS, passed away on November 12, 2025, at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Pastor Philip Miller will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oketo Cemetery.
She was born on May 15, 1949, to Donald and Dora (Rodehorst) Brooks in Oketo, KS. She attended school in Barneston, NE, and Oketo until she left school at the age of 16. Sarah then moved to Marysville to begin her life’s adventure.
Sarah lived with Ruth Kossow for a time and worked at the West Side Café, residing at the West Side Court while she was employed there. Throughout her life, she took on various jobs that came her way, including working in the flower department at Walmart, cleaning houses, and working at the Skyline Café.
After about 15 years of hard work, she moved to Murphy’s Apartments and began working at Landoll Corporation in the janitorial department, where she was employed for 25 years. During this time, Landoll’s supported her in earning her GED—an achievement she was very proud of. After leaving Landoll’s, Sarah worked at Diamond D and later at Travelong. She eventually moved to the Elm Street Apartments, which became her final home.
Just as Sarah was preparing for retirement, she was diagnosed with cancer. She faced this challenge with strength and determination.
During her life, Sarah enjoyed traveling and was able to visit Tennessee twice, as well as South Dakota and Oklahoma. She was very much a homebody, and her favorite foods were homemade canned pickled beets and canned green beans, potatoes, and ham.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and an infant brother.
Survivors include her brother, Dennis Brooks; aunt, Betty Roe; and close cousins, Cindy Alfers McDowell, Bob Alfers, and Tilly Alfers; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
