Troy Ellis Brooks Jr., 93, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his adoring children, on November 10, 2025, in
Springfield, Missouri. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather, Troy lived a full and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Born on June 28, 1932, in Richland, Missouri, Troy was the son of Troy Ellis Sr. and Lorene (Bell) Brooks. A strong and unwavering Christian identity, marked by integrity, perseverance, a deep sense of responsibility, and a profound steadfast faith in God, guided him all of his life.
Troy began college at Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University), but interrupted his education for the good of his country to join the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. After his tour in Korea, he returned to Springfield where he met the love of his life, Julie in early 1954. They were married in December of that year. He then completed his college education, earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.
Setting off from college, Troy embarked on a successful career with IBM Corporation as a field engineer beginning in Texas until relocating to Springfield in 1965. Known for his dedication and work ethic, he remained with the company until his retirement in 1991.
Troy shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with Julie (Owens) Brooks until her passing. Together they built a loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and three children. He also literally helped build their home, constructing additions including a custom kitchen for Julie and a large workshop for himself. Their enduring partnership was a testament to mutual respect and unwavering devotion.
He was a longtime member of Scenic Nazarene Church before becoming part of the Nixa Nazarene Church community. His faith was an anchor throughout his life and shaped the way he treated others-with kindness, humility, and compassion. Always concerned with wanting others to know the good news and love of Jesus Christ, Troy taught Sunday School classes and bible studies in his churches, including, even, a bible study at Creekside Assisted Living in the sunset years of his life. He also used his skills and wisdom to help maintain the church, advise as a board member and trustee, and find countless other ways to further its mission any time the doors were open.
Troy had many passions that brought him joy outside of work and the home. He loved all kinds of music, and sang in men's choirs and quartets in church and college. It was while singing in a young adult quartet that he met Julie.
He was no stranger to the lake. Whether pulling children or grandchildren on skis, soaking up a peaceful day of fishing, or setting up a tent or camper, he loved experiencing God's good creation. In retirement, he found and fell in love with wood carving as a hobby, which allowed him to reflect his own patience and artistry. He and Julie also traveled extensively with their fifth wheel, continuing to make incredible memories in their golden years.
He leaves behind a legacy carried forward by his children: Larry (son) & Jorene Brooks of Brighton, MO; Jeannie (daughter) & David Hedges of Broken Arrow, OK; and Sherry (daughter) & Scott Lee of
Springfield, MO. He was also blessed with nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who brought him immense pride over the years.
Troy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Julie, his parents, Troy Sr. and Lorene Brooks, and his great-great granddaughter Irelyn Ruiz.
Troy Ellis Brooks Jr.'s life was one of quiet strength and enduring love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
