Bertha Mae Long passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on June 30, 1942, in Ellijay, Georgia, Bertha's life was a portrait of devotion to her faith, family, and the simple pleasures of nature.
She was a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church, Bertha's unwavering faith was evident to all who knew her.
Bertha found great joy in the tranquility of her flower garden. She loved her birds, they would come from all around to her feeders, as she watched with delight and wonder.
Above all, Bertha cherished her family. She was the matriarch who instilled values of love and kindness in her children and grandchildren, her lessons and laughter forging an unbreakable bond. Her heart was most full when surrounded by her beloved grandchildren, to whom she imparted the wisdom of her years and the lightness of her humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Wayne A. Long.
Bertha is survived by her children, Michael Long (Vicki), Sandra Hansen (Bruce), Greg Long (Ann) and Teena Coogle (Bill); grandchildren, Cole Hansen-Elliott (Patrick), Andrew Long (Heather), Jacob Cooper, Danny Coogle, Will Cooper and Emma Long; great-grandchild, Reagan Long; sister, Beatrice Free; sister-in-law, Betty Cochran; caregiver, Denise Blackwell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Arbor Hill Baptist Church in Pickens County with Rev. Scott Chastain, Rev. Casey Davis, Rev. Robbie Chastain, Rev. Andrew Long, Rev. Greg Long and Rev. Sanford Fountain officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sosebee Funeral Home on Thursday, September 11th from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday, September 12th from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Will Cooper, Jacob Cooper, Cole Hansen, Lee Faucett, Will England, Jamie Crook and Rudy Tribble.
